Here in New England, its spring and we are concentrating on filling our summer calendars and sprucing up our gardens. Meanwhile our friends south of the equator are settling in for winter. For some this is a perfect opportunity to go ski South America in July or tour Australia in the off season. If your perfect idea of a summer vacation is jetting off to somewhere cold you’ll need to know how to pack for it.
Recently we read Amber Mortensen’s blog post, Traveling Light and Chic, on about.com. We agree with Amber to always pack your favorite leather jacket when you are traveling in cool climates. You won’t just look good, you’ll be warm too!

On rainy spring weekends many of us spend time cleaning out our closets. If you own leather clothing and accessories this a great time to ensure that your leather is stored properly. With proper care our classic leather jackets and accessories can last a lifetime. Here are a few tips to help your leather apparel survive the warm season in storage.
•Always use wide or padded hangers to maintain the shape of your leather garments.
•Keep leather out of plastic bags, storage bins or other coverings that do not breathe.
•Always allow wet or damp leather to air-dry naturally, do not apply a direct heat source.
•Do not store leather on areas that are humid or dry and avoid direct sunlight.
•Clean areas around the neckline and collar with leather cleaner before storing.
•Treat cleaned leather garments with conditioner to restore flexibility.
•Brush suede with a terry towel to freshen up the look.
