Buying a quality leather jacket is harder than it seems. There is nothing more irritating than spending your money on an expensive jacket, to have it fall apart a year later.
When you're window shopping for the perfect leather jacket, you want it to fit perfectly, look stylish, and last for years. A custom made leather jacket is the way to go; tailor-made just for you. But before you dish out the money, do your best to make sure you'll be getting the ultra-luxurious and flawlessly crafted, custom made leather jacket you ordered.
If you're not a leather connoisseur, you're not alone. And buying a high quality custom leather jacket can be a pretty big investment. What kind of leathers are out there and how do you know you are getting good quality?
Here are some tips to keep in mind before buying your next a leather jacket:
Have it custom made: A custom made leather jacket will fit perfectly and comfortably. If you have your leather jacket custom made, you won't have the worries that come with buying straight off the rack; like the sleeves being too long or too short, or the the shoulder span area is too snug. How many times have you tried on clothes and said,”This would fit perfect if...”. You can have your jacket customized without burning a hole in your pocket: $60. Full figures, tall frames, long arms, short waists, any size, Shoreline Traders will customize your leather jacket for $60.
Know the leather: Make sure you know the quality of the leather. Generally the softer the leather feels, the higher the price tag. It's important to know about the grade of the leather, the raw material used, and even the lining can be a helpful indicator. When you're ordering online, ask for a swatch of the leather. You'll get an idea of the color, grain, craftsmanship, and be able to feel the texture.
Quality Craftsmanship: Construction is as important the quality of the leather. You can tell right away if a jacket or coat is of good quality construction by looking at the panels of leather that make the garment. Do the grains match? Is the color uniform all around? Do the pockets and zipper cover blend with the body of the coat?Adding quality leather to your wardrobe and accessories adds confidence and style to your look.

- Full Grain (grade 1- highest quality) Cowhide Leather wears very well. It is the kind of leather that quickly becomes a “second skin”. Full grain ages gracefully over time and develops a beautiful natural patina with wear. It’s the ultimate in riding grade leather.
- Lambskin is perfect for dress wear. It’s lighter, smoother and comes in a wider variety of dyed colors. Lambskin is top quality in durability and style.
- The interior is a place for close inspection too. A well made leather piece will be fully lined through the sleeves and pockets. Some will offer a zip out lining for all weather wear. Check seams, they should match all around the garment and should be double stitched for durability. Leather on either side of a zipper indicates a well made piece.

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John started in the 1978 film Grease. The film takes place in the 1950's, Danny (John Travolta) is a bad boy leather jacket wearing greaser and Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) plays an innocent australian girl. Towards the end of the movie, Sandy transforms her look from good girl, to bad girl by dressing from head to toe in skin tight black leather pants and a black leather top, with red platform heels. Sandy and Danny dance together at the carnival, and this is a moment in leather fashion to remember forever.
5. James Dean
James Dean and his signature leather jacket are an important piece in fashion leather culture. In the movie, Rebel Without a Cause, Dean played a 17 year old bad boy, Jim Stark, who's always getting into trouble with the police. On rainy spring weekends many of us spend time cleaning out our closets. If you own leather clothing and accessories this a great time to ensure that your leather is stored properly. With proper care our classic leather jackets and accessories can last a lifetime. Here are a few tips to help your leather apparel survive the warm season in storage.
•Always use wide or padded hangers to maintain the shape of your leather garments.
•Keep leather out of plastic bags, storage bins or other coverings that do not breathe.
•Always allow wet or damp leather to air-dry naturally, do not apply a direct heat source.
•Do not store leather on areas that are humid or dry and avoid direct sunlight.
•Clean areas around the neckline and collar with leather cleaner before storing.
•Treat cleaned leather garments with conditioner to restore flexibility.
•Brush suede with a terry towel to freshen up the look.

Leather handbags, whether classic or contemporary, are a great addition to any women's wardrobe. Leather is not only durable, but is very versatile and comes in a wide variety of color. Now that you made that decision to invest a leather handbag, here are 5 must-do tips to keep your leather hand bag looking great.
- Waterproof your bag immediately. There's nothing worse than a nice leather handbag that has been shrunk or stained by water. Be sure to choose a waterproof spray specifically for your type of leather. Deer skin does not need to be waterproofed.
- Clean your leather handbag often. Simply wipe your leather bag with a dust free clothe to remove everyday dust particles. For further protection, moisturize your leather with mink oil. The leather will stay softer and cleaner longer.
- Keep the shape of your bag with tissue. Stuff tissue paper into the corners of your bag to keep the intended shape. Never use newspaper as the ink may stain the inside of your bag.
- Keep your leather bag free of dust. Try storing it in a cloth lined basket, or box with a lid. Never store your leather in a plastic bag, this may cause mildew to grow on your hand bag.
- Keep your leather bag away from alcohol. Hairspray, nail polish remover, or any other chemicals that contain alcohol can damage your leather bag beyond repair.
So there you have it. Five must-follow tips for caring for your leather handbag.

You already know that Shoreline Leather carries a variety of fahionable leather jackets for both men and women, but what you may not realize is that Shoreline Leather provides more than moderately priced leather apparel that appeals to many styles and tastes. We also provide an important segment in our leather line - safety - in our biker jackets.
Just a few facts - Jackets that are made for motorcyclists can be made of leather, nylon or Kevlar and all three materials fulfill a need for this important group. While the “joy of riding” brings many pleasures, it also brings several concerns of which safety is foremost on the list. Except for helmets, no other item of biker safety is required by any state in the US, but specific biker clothing is recommended by many of those who ride. We offer one of these items, the jacket.
If ultimate protection is desired, air mesh Kevlar will give the most protection in an accident, yet “safe-seam” leather comes in a close second followed by Cordura, nylon and the lowest protection is with cotton jeans. Additional protection is provided by armor and airbag systems.
Whatever materials you chose as gear, it is important to get the correct fit. Flapping due to loose fit can create unnecessary wear and wind drag and noise can distract the rider. At Shoreline Leather we not only have standard sizes but for a small additional charge we can custom make your jacket. We all come in different sizes, is there any reason you should not expect a perfect fit?

Leather jackets are made for fashionable purposes but are also chosen for protection. At Shoreline Leathers we carry jackets for each need. At www.shorelinetraders.com you will see under the men’s biker category our three lines of leather jacket for both style and protection. The “Bad Boy” is for style and comfort, the “Classic” combines traditional style with a reasonable amount of protection. Our top of the line “Weasel” not only makes a fashion statement but with its well padded shoulders and elbows gives the ultimate in leather product protection.
Standard size or custom size, Shoreline Leather is ready to serve you! Shop us today and take advantage of our spring special products.

Finally! Spring has arrived and it is not just thoughts of flowers and warmth that keep us motivated but also the excitement and newness of the season and the desire for brightness of color. Finally, we can enjoy the gift of spring as well as the gift of color but can we really express these emotions with the clothing we wear? We express our outward feelings of emotion with either dark or blooming colors or bright and eclectic variations of each. What are we trying to say? Life is good and I am very much alive.
Clothing and expression of fashion bring to the forefront our desire to express ourselves. We have the choice to wear expressionless clothing but most of us seek something brighter in expression. We feel good when we look good. Style along with color tells those who observe us that we not only exist in life but that we most certainly relish life. Color is the medium for this expression.
Shoreline Leathers brings us the best of both fashion worlds. Traditional black and browns exist with all of our styles but are we brave enough to dig deeper? Shoreline Leathers offers a variation of all color styles that tell us who you are. Is it light blue or crimson red? Would a modest beige or pink be you? Would Forest Green tell us how you feel about the earth or do you have another statement to make? We can provide the color medium for you! Check out our web site and the colors we offer. Are you pleased? Do you need more information? Would you like a swatch to feel and touch the luxury we offer? Just let us know.

Big & Tall and Plus Size Leather Jackets: Fit matters more than size

A leather jacket that fits perfectly is gold. When you slip your arms in the sleeves and the cuffs fall in just the right place, the back hangs perfectly on your shoulders, the waist flatters and buttons or zips without pulling and bunching, that’s called the “money fit”. You look like a million bucks feel like a million bucks and move with comfort and confidence. Beautiful.
Custom made leather jacket from ShorelineTraders is an affordable luxury. For the cost of a tank and half of gasoline you can have a custom made leather jacket, seriously. $60 buys you made to order sleeves, the perfect fit around your chest or waist, flattering shoulders wrapped in leather. If you live in a changeable or cooler climate consider adding a zip-in/zip-out thinsulate liner. The attractive liner adds the warmth equivalent of two sweaters, but without the bulk, for a ridiculously low price of $28.
How do you know if you need a big or tall jacket?
Men’s Tall: If you are taller than 6’2” and your waist is smaller than your chest, you need tall. Chances are most off the rack items probably don’t hang down far enough on you and sleeves are most likely just a bit too short. When you go up a size you probably run into problems of bagginess around the waist area and excessive length.
Men’s Big: Using 6’2” as the benchmark, if you are below that and your waist measures the same or bigger than your chest, this is you. Shopping challenges you run into are stretching across the lower back or too much fabric in the shoulders.
Custom fit lets you buy for fit not for size. Wearing clothing that’s made just for you is a good look, on anyone.
Women have equally frustrating challenges buying off the rack leather jackets. A slightly cinched waist on a jacket for ladies with larger chests eliminates the common “tent” look to clothing. Taller women can have the jacket hang to just mid-way down the derrière, flattering their height without trying to hide it.
You can be wearing your favorite leather jacket, made just for you, fitting you in all the right places. It’s only a few clicks away!
